Title III – Project #18124

Coordinated Fuels Reduction/Wildland Fire Outreach Project

The Coordinated Fuels Reduction and Wildland Fire Outreach team have spent the spring meeting and preparing for the upcoming season of activities as part of the Title III grant objectives.  To date, no receipts have be been turned in for reimbursement. These will be forthcoming.  The following mid term summary report has been prepared for your review and consideration.

MID TERM SUMMARY REPORT

South County Fuels Reduction Status - Current

The County Road Dept. has completed Right of Way (ROW) clearing in most of the areas identified in the Title III scope of work.  In conjunction with our revised scope of work dated December 20, 2006, we have identified additional roads as being high hazard for ladder fuels:

  • Hardy Road : Title III funding will be used in conjunction with County Road Funding to clear Hardy Road from hazardous fuels
  • Upper Butte Creek Road: Oregon Dept. of Forestry (ODF) will work with forester and adjoining landowners on this stretch of vacated county road.  Title III funds will be used to hire private contractor to clear this stretch of ROW.

South County Fuels Reduction- Planned

County Road Dept. has plans to continue fuels reduction efforts on Wilhoit, Maple Grove, and Rosewood roads.

  • Any funding not used in the above project area will be used to supplement the roads dept. efforts.
  • ODF will send out a letter to landowners in the “planned” area to let them know there will be ROW clearing, and inquire about fence removal for abandoned fence lines, notify them of addressing opportunity, and potential for fuels reduction cost-share on private property. ODF will manage this piece as well as the signage project.

 Project Signage

County Road Dept. and Wildland Fire Planning Team will produce and place information signs along ROW where work has been done to let local landowners know what is happening and encourage support for additional fuels reduction projects on public ROW and private property.

Emergency Services Address Signs

The Clackamas County Fire Co-op has agreed to a standard for address markers, thereby making it easier for emergency responders to locate homes. Approximately 500 signs will be produced for use by the Fire-Coop.  100 signs will be reserved for Estacada Fire to serve as a model for other fire districts.  The remainder of the signs will be available for cost-share with property owners in the fuels reduction area in South County.

Public Service Announcements

Fire Coop is leading effort to produce a series of PSAs for airing on local government channel and network/cable airing. Eight (8) PSAs are figured in the budget; however, the Fire Co-op opted to develop 4 PSAs with more media coverage. Various forms of media will be used to promote the wildfire safety messages, including targeted Comcast cable channels, County Cable, and local print.   PSAs produced include:

  • Defensible Space/ Firewise Landscaping
  • Fireworks
  • Campfires
  • Safe Debris Burning
